Crime Career: Five Branches, Mastery and Heat
A layered crime system with 20 jobs in 5 branches, mastery per job and a career title.
The Crime Career is a layered crime system next to hostage-taking. You unlock new crimes, build mastery and climb from Street Rat to Godfather. You find it under Crime > Crime Career.
Five branches, twenty crimes
| Branch | Opens at rank | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Street | 1 | Pickpocketing, bag snatching, car window, fencing |
| Burglary | 5 | Shed, house, shop, jeweller |
| Scams | 12 | Lottery, cheques, identity fraud, investments |
| Robbery | 20 | Petrol station, supermarket, cash truck, bank |
| Heavy | 35 | Arms dealing, art theft, gold transport, casino heist |
A branch opens at a certain rank and with one star on the last crime of the previous branch. Within a branch you unlock the next crime with a number of successes on the previous one.
Mastery
Every crime has five mastery levels (up to 1000 successes). More mastery gives a higher chance, more loot and a shorter cooldown. Your total number of stars decides your career title: Street Rat, Petty Thief, Crook, Burglar, Gangster, Capo, Consigliere, Underboss and Godfather.
Heat
Heat runs from 0 to 100, rises with every crime and drops 1 point per minute. High heat lowers your chance and raises the chance of jail. Lying low costs money but cools you down.
Hot job, daily orders and luck
- Hot job: one crime per day pays 1.5 times the loot.
- Daily orders: three per day with cash and XP.
- Lucky moments: a big haul (double loot), an informant tip (less heat) or an escape without jail risk.
Loot scales with the economy and with city events. The Crime Career counts towards achievements, daily tasks and tournaments.
