In BELLOCCO, the free mafia browser game, a crime does not always go to plan. If a job fails, you end up in prison and have to serve your time, unless you try to escape. Your escape rank is the stat that decides how likely that breakout is to succeed. That makes it one of the most useful hidden stats in the game: the higher your escape rank, the less time you waste behind bars.
What is the escape rank?
The escape rank is a separate ranking, independent of your main rank and your XP. It measures one thing only: how experienced you are at getting out of a cell. Your rank goes up every time you successfully escape from prison. And it snowballs: the higher your escape rank, the better your chance of getting out again next time. Seasoned escape artists become harder and harder to keep locked up.
How do you raise your escape rank?
There is only one way to raise your escape rank: actual successful breakouts. Waiting until you are released does not count: you have to attempt the escape yourself and pull it off. This means players who commit a lot of risky crimes land in a cell more often and therefore get more chances to escape. They build up a high escape rank faster than cautious players. A failed attempt can keep you inside longer, so every successful breakout is a double win: you are free and your rank goes up.

Why the escape rank matters
Time in prison is lost time: you cannot commit crimes, train or earn money. A high escape rank cuts that lost time drastically, because you break out more often and sooner. For active players who take a lot of risks, it is one of the most valuable stats to invest in. And because the escape rank is separate from your other rankings, building it costs you nothing in XP or wealth: it is pure bonus.
