Smuggling is the international branch of the drug game in BELLOCCO. Where dealing drugs means selling your stock locally, smuggling takes your business across the border: you profit from the price difference between countries. Buy low, deliver where the street price is sky-high, and pocket the spread. The smuggling page has three tabs: Smuggling run (your next job), Recent runs (your history, clickable and paginated) and Top smugglers (the season ranking by profit). This is import-export, mafia style: daring, lucrative and not for the faint-hearted.
How a smuggling run works
- Load. Choose a drug from your stock, a destination country and the quantity. The cargo moves straight from your stock into the hold. Optionally, you pay a bribe.
- Fly. The run takes travel time (about 10 minutes by default, adjustable). Meanwhile your cargo is high in the sky, out of reach: and you can simply keep playing.
- Customs check. On arrival the catch chance is rolled. Get through and you sell at the current street price of the destination country and cash the profit. Get caught and you lose your entire cargo and go to jail (3 to 10 minutes by default).
After every run there is a short cooldown (2 minutes by default) before the coast is clear again.
Cargo space: from mule to heavy hauler
How much you carry per run depends on your best plane. Without a plane you are a mule, lugging a measly 15 units (default). Every plane also has its own, separately set cargo space (separate from the bomb capacity you use for bombing): the heavier the aircraft, the more contraband fits inside. You can see the current cargo space of each plane directly in the weapon shop.
If you have the VIP perk +50% cargo space, you get another fifty percent on top. You buy planes in the weapon shop: see Shop & Equipment.
The catch chance: how to lower the risk
Customs is the only real enemy on your route. The catch chance is built from clear factors (all values are defaults, adjustable by the admins):
- Base: 20%. Every run starts here.
- Cargo: +1% per 10 units above the first 10 free units. A fully loaded Nachtraaf is much riskier than a half-full Cessna: but it also pays out accordingly.
- Your plane's condition: up to -12% in top condition. A rattling old plane draws attention; maintenance pays off.
- Bribe: -14%. Costs 10% of the purchase value of your cargo (minimum €2,500). A few bills in the right pocket and the customs officer looks the other way.
- Floor: 4%. Smuggling is always a gamble: even the perfect run.
The quote on the smuggling page calculates this live for you, with and without a bribe, so you know exactly what risk you are taking before you go.
The spread: how you make a profit
Every country has its own, constantly fluctuating street price per drug. The difference between your purchase value (home country) and the selling price (destination) is your spread. The market moves on its own, so the smart smuggler waits until the gap is at its widest. Note: the payout is calculated on the price at arrival: the market can still move during your flight, in either direction. Your earnings also scale with the season theme and the economy balance.
Bonus sale: sometimes a buyer pays above market price
On a successful delivery there is a chance you meet a buyer who pays more than the normal street price: a bonus sale of 5% to 30% above the market price on that run. This is pure luck: you only see it after arrival, in the delivery notification and in the run details. It does not happen every run and the bonus is deliberately kept modest, so it stays a nice surprise without disrupting the economy: and without smuggling automatically becoming better than simply selling on the street. If customs catches you, the bonus sale does not apply: it is only for cargo that arrives safely.
Loot on top of the profit
A successful run gives you more than cash: XP (scaling with the size of your cargo), season points, a chance at a vault code and at a tuning part for your vehicles. Every run counts toward your smuggling achievements, daily tasks, weekly challenges and tournaments. The biggest runs even make the news: and the season's best smugglers show off on the Top smugglers tab, ranked by profit.
Looking back at recent runs
The Recent runs tab holds your entire history, neatly paginated. Every run is clickable for the full story: which drug, which route, how big the cargo was, whether you paid a bribe, and what it earned you in the end: or cost you. That way you learn which routes and drugs pay off best for you.
Tip: during a city event such as Drug Shortage or Customs Strike, prices shoot up or the border opens wide: the perfect moment for a big run.
Frequently asked questions
What is a bonus sale?
On a successful delivery there is a chance that a buyer pays 5% to 30% above the normal market price. You only see this after arrival: a nice bonus on top of your normal profit, not guaranteed and deliberately kept modest.
How much can I carry per run?
Without a plane, 15 units (mule). With a plane, the cargo space set for that specific aircraft applies: heavier planes carry far more than a smuggling Cessna. The VIP perk adds another +50% cargo space on top.
What determines the catch chance at customs?
Base 20%, plus 1% per 10 units above the 10 free ones, minus up to 12% for a plane in top condition, minus 14% with a bribe. The floor is 4%: it never becomes completely safe (all values are defaults, adjustable).
How much does a bribe cost?
10% of the purchase value of your cargo, with a minimum of €2,500 (default). In return your catch chance drops by 14 percentage points: almost always worth it for big loads.
What happens if I get caught?
Your entire cargo is confiscated (you lose its purchase value) and you go to jail, 3 to 10 minutes by default. Any bribe you paid is lost as well.
Do I need a plane?
It is not required: you can start as a mule: but with a plane your cargo space grows up to 16 times as large, and good condition lowers your catch chance too. For serious runs an aircraft is essential.
The border waits for no one. Play for free, load your first cargo and climb to the top of the smugglers' ranking.
