Mafia hierarchy explained: from boss to associate
A mafia family is built like a company, with clear ranks. Below you can see who does what, from the boss to the associate, and how it works in the online mafia game BELLOCCO.
The ranks in a mafia family
| Rank | Italian name | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Boss | Capo dei capi, Don | Leads the family, has the final word and receives a share of everyone's earnings. |
| Underboss | Sottocapo | Second in command. Runs day-to-day business and often succeeds the boss. |
| Consigliere | Consigliere | The boss's adviser. Has no crew of his own and mediates disputes. |
| Capo | Caporegime | Leads a crew of soldiers and passes the earnings up. |
| Soldier | Soldato, "made man" | Full member who carries out orders and earns for the family. |
| Associate | Associato | Works with the family but is not a formal member. |
This is the traditional structure as widely documented. Ranks run from high to low: information and money flow up, orders flow down. In practice every family works a little differently.
